During the Call for Election Nominations earlier this year, the College received two eligible nominations for three Professional Director positions on the Board. Abir Hoblos and Isabelle Milot were acclaimed. The College launched a by-election to seek nominations for the third position and acclaimed Jyothy Nair as the third director in April.
We are pleased to share more information about the three successful candidates who were acclaimed to the Board and will be serving three year terms commencing in June 2025.
The College welcomes new Professional Director, Abir Hoblos, RM. Abir is an experienced and dedicated midwife who is motivated by her belief that families choosing midwifery should receive excellent care. An internationally educated midwife, Abir first registered with the College in January 2006 and is committed to offering compassionate, skilled care to pregnant individuals and their families.
As the Head Midwife at St. Joseph’s Health Centre Toronto since 2018, Abir has actively participated in numerous committees and played a key role in expanding the scope of midwifery practice at the hospital. Abir believes in continuous professional development, and in addition to her clinical practice, Abir is an neonatal resuscitation (NRP) instructor and has completed a surgical assist course.
Outside of her professional work, Abir enjoys practising yoga, walking in nature, and cherishing precious moments with family and friends.
Isabelle Milot, RM will be returning to the College’s Board. Isabelle has been a dedicated advocate and leader in the midwifery profession for decades. In the early 1990s, she was a key member of her local Ontario Consumer Network chapter, which played a pivotal role in establishing midwifery in Southwestern Ontario. After graduating from the Midwifery Education Program in 2006, she began practicing in the Chatham-Kent area, where she has remained committed to providing high-quality care.
Beyond clinical practice, Isabelle has taken on leadership roles that have shaped midwifery at both the hospital and regulatory levels. She served as the head midwife at her local hospital for seven years, played an active role in various committees, including More OB, and has spearheaded multiple projects in her community, including a postpartum clinic for non-midwifery families. She is currently an elected board member of the College of Midwives, where she continues to advocate for professional excellence, innovation, and sustainability in midwifery care.

Jyothy Nair, RM, RN, is returning to the College of Midwives of Ontario Board for her second term. Jyothy brings her professional and lived experiences as a BIPOC midwife to the College’s Board, where she aims to make a difference for our diverse midwifery clients.
Jyothy graduated with an Honours Bachelor of Arts in 2003 at the University of Toronto, worked in a bank for several years and then completed her Honours Bachelor of Health Sciences in Midwifery from TMU in 2012, registering with the College of Midwives that year. Since then, Jyothy has served midwifery clients across cultural, ethnic, and rural/urban geographical locations, and has first-hand experience with the diversity of midwifery practice in Ontario.
Dedicated to lifelong learning, Jyothy also completed her Bachelor of Nursing in 2017, and currently works as an Emergency RN in two acute care hospitals and at a hospice downtown as a casual Hospice RN. She remains active within the Midwifery Space as a Senior Emergency Skills Workshop (ESW) Instructor, a contributor in the ESW Work Group, and a non-board member of the Racial Equity Committee at the Association of Ontario Midwives.
