Notice of Elections 

The College of Midwives of Ontario will be holding Council elections from June 1, 2023 to June 30, 2023, to fill two vacancies for professional member positions.  Each term consists of a duration of three years.  The next term will begin October 4, 2023.

Revised – Record Keeping Standard

The College’s Record Keeping Standard was revised at the December 2022 Council meeting. The new standard comes into effect on April 1, 2023.

Public Consultation: Registration Regulation Including the Emergency Class (Proposed)

The Registration Regulation has been revised to meet three main objectives: Set requirements to register safe, competent, and ethical midwives; ensure fair registration practices; and reflect modern midwifery practice.

Resource for Midwives: Complaints and Investigations

The College has created a new resource for midwives about the complaints process and you can read it here. This resource is intended to provide information, so midwives know what to expect if they are the subject of a complaint or report.

Quality Assurance Reporting Deadlines

All midwives should have received a Quality Assurance email in late November 2022, confirming when your next report is due. Please email qap@cmo.on.ca  if you did not receive this email or if you have questions.

Practice Advice:  When a client declines aspects of care  

A midwife is caring for a client planning a home birth. At 35 weeks gestation the client tells their midwife they want to labour and birth on their own, without any interventions, and they will not call a midwife to attend.
