February Board Highlights

At their February meeting, the College’s Board approved a budget with a continued freeze on registrant fees, approved a new strategic plan for 2026-2029, appointed new non-Board members to committees, and more. Board materials are available online and we have highlighted a few key items below.

Budget 2026-27

The College’s Board approved the annual operating budget for the 2026-27 fiscal year. The approved budget includes the resources required to fulfill the College’s regulatory mandate, advance the priorities and objective outlined in the 2026-29 Strategic Plan, and provide for necessary investments in operational improvements. For the third year in a row, the budget maintains a freeze on registrant fees. The approval of this budget will enable the College to continue to regulate midwifery in the public interest while moving into a new strategic chapter with confidence and momentum.

Appointments

Nominations Committee

Following the Board’s November 2025 decision to strike a non-statutory Nominations Committee, the Board appointed five non-Board committee members to serve as the inaugural committee. The Nominations Committee will be responsible for facilitating recruitment, appointments, and elections process for the College’s Board and Committees, in alignment with the College’s By-laws, policies, and reporting requirements. The appointees to the Nominations Committee are as follows:

  • Alison Gorringe, RM
  • Madanpreet Kaur
  • Sharon Lee (Chair)
  • Sharnelle Morgan
  • Kyla Wong, RM

Non-Board Committee Appointment

The Board appointed a new Non-Board Committee Applicant, Damienne Lebrun-Reid, to the Registration Committee and the Inquiries, Complains, and Reports Committee.

New Public Board Director

On February 26, 2026, the College received an approved Order in Council from the Ministry of Health appointing Jamuna Balaram to the College’s Board as a Public Director. Welcome Jamuna!
