Throughout June, National Indigenous History Month invites all of us to learn about and reflect on the history and present realities of this country. It is a time to reaffirm our commitment to ongoing learning and to recognize the responsibility we share in building respectful and accountable relationships between settler and Indigenous communities.
In advance of the College’s Board Meeting, the Registrar-CEO prepares her report to assure the Board that the College operates effectively and achieves its strategic goals, and that the Registrar performs per the expected duties outlined in the Board’s Governance Policies.

Processing complaints is one important way we fulfil our mandate to protect the public. Information from complaints provides valuable insight into how midwifery care is experienced and how the complaint process can best support future care and the public’s trust in midwifery. These insights help us identify where updates to standards, practice advice, or education for the profession may be needed.
Congratulations to the successful candidates: Kelly Armstrong, Sonya Daljeet, and Maryam Rahimi Chatri. A total of 385 registrants, or 35% of eligible voters, cast ballots in the election.

The College’s new strategic plan came into effect on April 1, 2026. The creation of the new plan was led by College staff in collaboration with Board Directors and Committee members and was informed by system partners, midwives, and members of the public. We’re excited to share highlights of our new plan which moves us forward in areas of equity, reconciliation, engagement, collaboration, and in our regulatory duties set out in legislation.
Midwives are able to provide a variety of immunizations to their clients to prevent the spread of communicable illness in Ontario. New research suggests that immunization rates in Ontario are falling, and midwifery clients – in particular – show a lower rate of vaccination overall. We want to support midwives in having tough conversations that benefit the health of their clients and would like hear from midwives how we can help.
At their February meeting, the College’s Board approved a budget with a freeze on registrant fees, approved a new strategic plan for 2026-2029, appointed new non-Board members to committees, and more. Board materials are available online and we have highlighted a few key items here.
The program operates on a three-year cycle that begins when you first register with the College and continues throughout your career as a Registered Midwife. Participation is mandatory for all Ontario midwives. All midwives, whether general, supervised, transitional, or inactive, are required to actively maintain their Professional Development Portfolio.
