The Interim Regulatory Council on Midwifery (ICRM) was created in 1990 to develop the standards for this profession.
In consultations with practising midwives, other health professions, and midwifery clients, the IRCM built the foundation for the regulation of the profession; creating policies, standards of practice, and qualifications for entry to practice. The Council also worked with with the provincial government and the Ontario Hospital Association on legislative changes to ensure that midwives could attend births in hospitals.
You can read our 1994-1995 Annual Report for more information on the ICRM.
