The first cohort of students entered the International Midwifery Pre-registration Program (IMPP) in fall 2002, graduating in spring of 2003. The IMPP trained internationally educated midwives and gave them the education, knowledge, and skills they need to practise safely in Ontario. Before the IMPP was established, the College relied on the Prior Learning Experience and Assessment Program (PLEA) to assess whether midwives had the necessary education to practice in Ontario.
Currently, the College’s Orientation and Assessment Pilot Program for internationally educated midwives is the pathway to registration for internationally educated midwives.
