Addressing Ableism in Health Care – Webinar

On December 3, the College was pleased to partner with the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario to host a webinar on Addressing Ableism in Health Care, presented by Dr. Hilary Brown (University of Toronto). Held on the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, the session offered an important opportunity to reflect on how health systems – including midwifery care – can more effectively identify, interrupt, and prevent ableism.

Supporting Scope Expansion for Other Health Care Providers

The College of Midwives of Ontario recently had the opportunity to express our support for several proposed expansions to professional scope: for chiropractors, chiropodists, dental hygienists, denturists, optometrists, pharmacists, physiotherapists, psychologists, and speech-language pathologists. These expansions were largely to medications these professionals can prescribe and administer, and access to diagnostic imaging. Read the messages we shared with the Ministry of Health through their public consultation in November, 2025.

Registrant Survey Results

The College surveyed registrants in May and June of this year, and 363 midwives participated. Overall, the key findings from the survey were positive, including an overall high satisfaction with the College and our work; with 91% of midwives finding a great deal of personal value in midwifery being a regulated profession and 75% of midwives believing that regulation helps a great deal to protect the public. Midwives also identified areas for improvement from the College, including presenting standards and policies in clearer, more accessible language; and a need for more support for midwives when we implement regulatory change.
