The College of Midwives will be holding focus groups and is looking for midwives who are willing to participate. The focus groups will be used to generate information about the knowledge and skills required to be a midwife and the data generated will help in the development of new peer and practice assessment tools.
We will be holding two different focus groups, one for practicing midwives, and one for academic faculty and staff. You can read below to find out what we are looking for in each group. The focus groups will be held in person, with an option for midwives outside of the GTA to participate remotely. Each focus group will be approximately two hours in length.
In the practitioner focus group, we’re looking for midwives from across the province, who reflect the profession. Midwives from rural areas, urban areas, large practices, small practices, and midwives who are French speaking are all encouraged to apply. The focus groups will be conducted in English, so we would request that all midwives participating be proficient in conversational English.
For the academic focus group, we’re looking for members from the Midwifery Education Program, and from the International Midwifery Pre-Registration Program (IMPP). Educators and individuals involved with curriculum and program development are encouraged to participate.
Midwives who are willing to participate in these upcoming focus groups should email qap@cmo.on.ca with your name, the community of practice, which focus group you’re interested in participating in, your contact number, and any other pieces of information you think we should have. We will review all messages received, and be in touch about next steps.
