Amendments have been made to Ontario’s Personal Health Information & Protection Act (PHIPA), and midwives have had new obligations in providing notice to the Information & Privacy Commissioner regarding privacy breaches effective October 1st, 2017. We’ve updated our Guide to Compliance with PHIPA to add in these new changes so that members can understand what will be required. Social media such as Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, blogs and websites can be effective tools for midwives to connect professionally with clients, colleagues, and the public. However, their highly accessible nature can pose risks to midwives’ professional obligations, including maintaining appropriate boundaries and safeguarding client privacy.
CMRC: Use of Protected Title of Midwife Statement
The Quality Assurance Committee will be dedicating time over the next year to reviewing and revising the components of the QA Program including Self-Assessments Peer and Practice Assessments, and Quality of Care Evaluations. Community input will be needed to help identify best practices and develop an innovative and meaningful QA Program as the profession grows.
