The goal of the review was to update the General By-law to reflect current inclusive language, governance reforms, best practices, and updates to align with other governing legislation. The College\u2019s public interest mandate guided our review of the by-law.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The General By-law covers many important governance and procedural matters that guide the operations of the Council, committees, and the College. The College may make by-laws in accordance with section 94(1) of the Health Professions Procedural Code, schedule 2 of the <em>Regulated Health Professions Act, 1991.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The proposed changes to the by-law are open to a 60-day public consultation from Thursday, April 4, 2024 &nbsp;to Monday, June 3, 2024. Following the 60-day consultation, the General By-law and feedback will be brought to Council for final review and approval at its June 2024 meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n<div id=\"container-block_fa79575e29f4e17e65075a7d84bfd5e7\" class=\"cmo-container custom-block alignfull py-5\" style=\"background-color: #f2f7f9\" tabindex=\"-1\">\n\t<div class=\"inner-container \">\n\t\t\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Consultation request<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The comparison table outlines the current provisions in the by-law, along with proposed changes and their respective rationales.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-layout-flex wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link wp-element-button\" href=\"https:\/\/cmo.on.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/General-Bylaw-Comparison-Table.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">View the Consultation Table<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<div id=\"responsive-spacer-block_a272865a682d0c63b7e1de5a3a3c2e6b\" class=\"responsive-spacer custom-block spacer-small\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>A summary of proposed changes follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In reviewing the by-laws, the following changes were applied throughout to update:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><em>Language and definitions<\/em><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>\u2018Council\u2019 to \u2018Board\u2019<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u2018Member\u2019 to \u2018Registrant\u2019<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u2018Council Member\u2019 to \u2018Board Director\u2019 (elected and appointed)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u2018Inactive\u2019 to \u2018inactive\/non-practising\u2019 \u2013 to include the wording in the proposed Registration Regulation that was submitted to the Ministry of Health in May 2023.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Accessible and inclusive language \u2013 the by-law had already been reviewed to use gender-inclusive language in 2018.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><em>Aligning with current best practice<\/em><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Removing sections that no longer apply.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Simplifying and aligning with other governing legislation, such as the <em>Regulated Health Professions Act, 1991 <\/em>and the Health Professions Procedural Code, by removing duplicate language and\/or adding references for clarity.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Building in flexibility where possible to enable governance modernization, procedural fairness, and equitable practices.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-layout-flex wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link wp-element-button\" href=\"https:\/\/cmo.on.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/General-Bylaw-Comparison-Table.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">View the Consultation Table<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\t<\/div>\t\t\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n\n<div id=\"responsive-spacer-block_a5d251afb88143084cc17e2b0ce4000a\" class=\"responsive-spacer custom-block spacer-large\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to provide feedback<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>You may submit your comments on this page below until Monday, June 3, 2024.
