{"id":4051,"date":"2018-01-03T14:44:04","date_gmt":"2018-01-03T19:44:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.cmo.on.ca\/?p=4051"},"modified":"2018-05-04T11:33:23","modified_gmt":"2018-05-04T15:33:23","slug":"changes-to-the-employment-standards-act","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cmo.on.ca\/changes-to-the-employment-standards-act\/","title":{"rendered":"Changes to the Employment Standards Act"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Effective January 1st, 2018, a number of changes were made to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ontario.ca\/document\/your-guide-employment-standards-act-0\">Ontario&#8217;s <em>Employment Standards Act<\/em><\/a>\u00a0(ESA).<\/p>\n<p>One change that is important for midwives and their clients is to the Notice Requirements for Pregnancy Leave, which has been amended to include midwives as one of the medical practitioners who can provide a certificate stating the baby&#8217;s due date.<\/p>\n<p>From the ESA:<\/p>\n<h3><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ontario.ca\/document\/your-guide-employment-standards-act-0\/pregnancy-and-parental-leave\">Notice requirements for pregnancy leave<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>&#8220;An employee must give her employer at least two weeks\u2019 written notice before beginning her pregnancy leave.
