{"id":4220,"date":"2018-02-07T09:47:24","date_gmt":"2018-02-07T14:47:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.cmo.on.ca\/?p=4220"},"modified":"2018-05-04T10:33:47","modified_gmt":"2018-05-04T14:33:47","slug":"requesting-changes-to-scope-of-practice","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cmo.on.ca\/requesting-changes-to-scope-of-practice\/","title":{"rendered":"Requesting changes to scope of practice"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The College of Midwives of Ontario has made a submission to the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care to request two scope of practice changes.<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;re requesting a change to the <em>Laboratory and Specimen Collection Centre Licensing Act, 2015<\/em>, that would grant midwives the authority to order laboratory tests within their scope of practice as defined by the <em>Midwifery Act, 1991.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;re also requesting that the Ministry rescind the list in the Designated Drugs Regulation made under <em>the Midwifery Act, 1991<\/em> and to instead\u00a0allow midwives access to any drug or substance approved by Health Canada, within the scope of midwifery practice, excluding any drug or substance prohibited to midwives under the New Classes of Practitioner Regulations.<\/p>\n<p>You can read our full submission to the Ministry by clicking here:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/cmo.on.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/Scope-of-Practice-Changes_Submission-to-the-Ministry_Jan-2018.pdf\">Scope of Practice Changes Submission<\/a>.
