Today, the Emergency Class provisions in the Registration Regulation, under the Midwifery Act, 1991, came into effect. The implementation of the emergency class aligns with recent changes to the Regulated Health Professions Act, 1991 establishing the requirement for all regulated health professions to have an emergency class of registration by August 31, 2023.
For emergency class certificates to be issued, the Provincial Government or the Council of the College must have determined issuance of emergency certificates is in the public interest based on emergency circumstances.
Council has approved a new policy that enables the College to operationalize the new class of certificate in the event of an emergency. The Emergency Class Policy is available on the College’s website.
