On May 3, the new Designated Drugs and Substances Regulation came into effect, setting out a list of drugs midwives can prescribe and substances that midwives can administer by injection or inhalation on a midwife’s own authority within the scope of midwifery practice. The College of Midwives of Ontario is seeking proposals from a qualified expert to develop a comprehensive Decision Matrix tool. This Decision Matrix will be used in aiding our committee’s decision-making processes following competency-based assessments of registrants.

At the March Council meeting, Council members approved the 2024-25 budget (a balanced budget that includes a planned freeze on registrant fees), received an update on our Operational Plan, approved public consultations on two College by-laws, and more.
The College of Midwives of Ontario supports midwifery clients being able to access the care they need through their chosen provider. This expansion to the list will improve access to treatments for midwifery clients across the province. The College is proud to be a part of delivering this expansion with the Ministry of Health.
