We are inviting midwives, stakeholders, and members of the public to provide feedback to two consultations:
- Professional Standards: Phase 2
- General By-law
Standards Review: Phase 2
In 2016, the College adopted a principles-based approach to the development of the standards of practice, which required a review of all of the College’s existing standards. The first part of the review was completed in 2018, which resulted in a number of standards being rescinded and the Professional Standards for Midwives being implemented.
The College is now completing work as part of Phase 2 and is requesting feedback on the following:
- Rescinding the Consultation and Transfer of Care Standard (CTCS), implementing the Midwifery Scope of Practice Guide, and adding a standard to the Professional Standards for Midwives that sets minimum expectations for midwives after a transfer of care.
- Rescinding the Delegation, Orders and Directives Standard and propose changes to the Professional Standards for Midwives.
- Rescinding When a Client Chooses Care Outside the Midwifery Standards of Practice and making changes to the Guideline on Ending the Midwife-Client Relationship.
You may read more about the proposed changes in the Consultation Paper and submit your feedback here.
Please review the College’s Posting Guidelines as all comments are reviewed before being posted publicly to ensure they meet the criteria.
Feedback will be accepted until October 10, 2020.
General By-law
In 2017, the College made a submission to the Ministry of Health to rescind Part II of the General Regulation made under the Midwifery Act, 1991 called Notice of Open Meetings and Hearings. We propose to add certain pieces of information from the regulation to the College’s General By-law to ensure that when Part II of the General Regulation is rescinded, the important requirements related to providing information to the public about discipline hearings and Council meetings do not disappear and continue to exist in the College’s By-law.
You may read more about the proposed changes to the General By-law and submit your feedback here.
